“Winners Never Quit And Quitters Never Win” – Vince Lombardi
A few months ago, while researching books about positive thinking, I came across a book titled No Matter What!: 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love by life coach and author Lisa Nichols. I was briefly introduced to Lisa a little over a year ago while watching the documentary The Secret. Aside from that, I had never seen or read any of her work. This book has turned out to be a real life saver for me and led to many views of her motivational speeches on YouTube. In the book, she describes the first time she won a swim meet in high school after losing countless times before. The only thing she changed during that meet was her mindset. Instead of constantly thinking, I don’t want to lose, as she usually did, she thought of a phrase her grandmother had said to her. That phrase was: “Winners never quit and quitters never win.” After repeating the phrase over and over in her mind, she won the meet against more experienced swimmers. It seemed impossible at the time, but she made it possible just by changing her thoughts.
In the last few months, I’ve used this phrase in every aspect of my life. Sometimes it’s challenging to believe things will happen in due time, but I remind myself every day that it’s better for things to happen in time than to not happen at all. If we quit, we will never manifest the things that we want. It’s pretty ironic that one of the only guarantees in life derives from quitting. There will be times when quitting seems like the preferable option because there’s no risk and therefore, there’s no potential disappointment. I’ve learned that if there is no risk, there is no point. Don’t ever hold back on something you truly want because of fear. You will never win this way and the potential disappointment you’re trying to avoid will ultimately turn into permanent disappointment. It’s not worth it. You were born to be a winner, not a quitter. Glow & shine bright! xo
