“The Impossible Is Always Possible.” – Selena Quintanilla-Perez
When I was ten years old, I unexpectedly discovered a beautiful, talented, charismatic Mexican American female singer. Her name was Selena Quintanilla-Perez, but the world knows her simply as Selena. Selena became a legend through her music and as a little girl, I looked up to her in a way I’d never looked up to a female role model before. Maybe it was because she didn’t look like every other popular female singer back then. Maybe it was because she had the most amazing vocals I’d ever heard. Maybe it was her confidence in her dance moves. Or maybe it was her gorgeous personality shining through with every big laugh. No matter the reason, she was very special and touched my heart in a way that made me feel like I could do anything I dreamed of. Today, 20 years later, I still look up to her.
For this reason, I decided to use a quote from Selena as part of my words of wisdom. Selena always said she firmly believed that the impossible was possible. I couldn’t agree more. Think of all the things that exist today that were once considered “impossible”: inventions (mobile phones, televisions, electricity), women’s rights, landing on the moon, an African American U.S. president etc. Selena herself was considered impossible when she started in the music business. No woman had ever made it big in the Tejano music market before her, but she changed that. She indeed made the impossible possible.
You can make the impossible possible too. Think of what you want. Think of your dreams, your hopes, your best wish. Feel it with all your heart and believe. If it’s for the greater good of yourself and the world, it can happen. I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would encounter some of the opportunities I’ve encountered in my life. When I look back on certain moments, I’m utterly amazed at how incredibly blessed I’ve been and still am every day. I know none of it would have happened if I hadn’t believed in my heart that it could. If it seems impossible because it’s never been done before, some people may go and call you crazy for believing in it. Don’t ever let that get the best of you. Let your dreams get the best of you. Never give up on anything that’s in your heart. Do your absolute best in achieving what you want to achieve and once you’ve done that, let go and let the rest unfold as it should. Let go, but don’t ever give up. With hope, courage, and determination, you can make the impossible possible. Just as Selena did and still does long after her passing. Glow & shine bright! xo
