“Freedom Brings Opportunity, Opportunity Makes Your Future.” – Miles, Risky Business

I recently caught the movie, Risky Business on television and heard these words of wisdom from the character, Miles. Having freedom can mean different things to different people. Some might refer to it is as being single and on your own with no family to take care of and some might define it as having a lot of money with the ability to purchase multiple things. To me, freedom means all of this and more. We all have freedom. It’s whether or not we decide to use it that makes the difference.

Often, freedom is not taken advantage of because of fear. If we have a dream, we have the freedom to go after it. If we love someone, we have the freedom to let them know. If we want to stand up for something we believe in, we have the freedom to do so. Nothing and no one can take this freedom away from us and yet we still have this habit of believing otherwise. What causes this habit? Fear. Fear is a powerful thing if we let it be. Falsely believing that something or someone can take our freedom away is a product of fear.

Freedom is about who we are and expressing that with no limitations. There is never a time when we can’t do this. Never. It may have its risks or consequences and it may not always happen in the best timing, but we are always free to do what we want to do. In almost every situation, expressing your freedom is always better than not expressing it because just as the quote says, it leads to opportunities. Without opportunities, we wouldn’t be able to challenge who we are and become who we are supposed to be. Even in the saddest of circumstances, there lies opportunity. We may not always recognize it right away, but I guarantee you it’s there.

Sometimes you just have to take that chance that you’re so scared of taking. How will you ever know how far you can get if you don’t? Every successful person in life, love, and everything in between expressed their freedom by taking a risk. Believing in yourself comes with risk taking. It’s believing you may actually have a chance that leads to realizing that chance. There is no other way. You must capture your freedom, use it wisely, and take a risk. It’s truly the only way you will reach real happiness.

So, go out there and do something you want to do. Tell someone something you really want to tell them. Let your freedom win over fear. In the end, you will be the better for it. Glow & shine bright! xo
