“Live Fast, Have Fun, And Be A Bit Mischievous.” – Louis Tomlinson
It is officially 2015! Happy New Year! I thought this particular quote would be a fun one to start off the new year. For those who don’t know, Louis Tomlinson is a member of the popular music group, One Direction. His personality makes him my favorite of the group and these words of wisdom reflect his sense of humor. Although this quote has a tendency to make you laugh or smile, it does have substance to it.
Live fast! To me, living fast means not wasting time. It’s about how you should never wait for the “right moment” to say or do something. When you wait for a certain moment in the future, it may be too late. You may wake up one day and realize what you want to say or do is not possible anymore because the moment has passed. You should always live in the present because it’s the only moment that’s guaranteed. In my opinion, there is no “right moment.” Most of the time, that right moment that happens in the movies doesn’t exist in the real world. We don’t always have 2 hours, 2 days, 2 months, or 2 years to do what we want to do, but we do have now. I’ve come to realize that when you feel something, it’s usually the universe’s way of guiding you in the right direction. Perhaps it’s the path you’re meant to take. Some call these feelings intuition and the results fate. It may not seem to make sense or seem possible at the time that it’s happening and it may not even be what you want, but if you trust your feelings and take the action you need to take right away, things usually have a way of working out. You may be called crazy by those who don’t understand, but living fast is the only way to truly live. Otherwise, you’re just existing.
Have fun! Is there really any reason not to? Being an extremely silly person who laughs at the nerdiest things, I’ll be the first to tell you to not take life too seriously. I can’t imagine living life without having any fun. Even in those times when life seems to be a struggle, there’s always an opportunity to try and have fun. Laughing at yourself during embarrassing moments, singing karaoke with close friends, dancing alone in your bedroom, playing childhood games… these are all examples of having fun with yourself and others. Having fun is essential when things aren’t going the way we want them to. When we’re having fun, we’re distracting our brains from stressful times and giving ourselves a chance to breathe. We’re understanding the only way to stay focused is to stay calm. As long as what you’re experiencing is not harming anyone, you can never have too much fun in life.
Be a bit mischievous! As for Louis’ last piece of advice, haven’t we all been a bit mischievous at times? Sometimes we will annoy others in a playful way or get into some non-serious trouble just because we know we can. We’ve all been there. Whether you playfully teased someone as a child in school or trespassed on forbidden property in order to take a shortcut to your destination, being mischievous doesn’t have to be frowned upon. When I think of being mischievous, I think of the boys in the Stephen King book, The Body, which was adapted into the 1986 film, Stand By Me. They were all mischievous without seriously harming anyone and as a result, they were also taking Louis’ first two pieces of advice. They were living fast and having fun.
All in all, it’s some pretty useful advice from a young British lad who makes young girls everywhere swoon. I must admit, with words of wisdom like this, I can understand the reason for the swooning. 🙂 Glow & shine bright! xo
