“Life Is Not A Play, It’s What We Make Of The People We Love.” – The Format

Before singer-songwriter Nate Ruess gained fame with the popular band Fun., he was part of another great band from Arizona called The Format. Although The Format didn’t gain as much recognition as FUN., the music they put out is just as timeless. One of the tracks on their 2006 album, Dog Problems  is called “Snails.” It’s a song about seeing the beauty in time and in every little thing in life much like a snail sees the beauty in every slow inch that it moves. One of my favorite lines in the song is “Life is not a play, it’s what we make of the people we love.” What I’ve realized is that life would be nothing without the people we love. Absolutely nothing.

We don’t get to choose where we come from, but we do get to choose the people in our lives. It’s important to find the beauty in every person we meet. Every person in this world is unique. We all come from different lifestyles with different families and experiences. If we’re lucky, we’ll find people who can appreciate us for who we are and we’ll find a balance with them. These people will become friends and/or lovers. If we’re really lucky we’ll come from a family who can also appreciate us and we’ll find a balance with them as well. No matter who you end up loving in your life, it’s important to be grateful for every  moment you spend with them. It’s not just about the big positive “life-changing” moments such as weddings, birthdays, job promotions etc. It’s also about all the moments in between. These are the moments that will really change your life. Embrace the easy times and  the hard times. The laughing, the crying, the conversations…capture it all in your heart. Material things can give you moments of pleasure but the people you unconditionally love will bring you a lifetime of happiness. Nothing can ever replace this happiness. Always try and see the benefit in everything and make the best of the people you love. Glow & shine bright! xo
